A few years ago I was honored to be chosen to be the keynote speaker for the 12th Annual Black Graduation Celebration for the Office of Black Student Affairs. The theme for the event was “Sankofa”, which means “to move forward while looking back”. I spoke to a packed house of approximately 500 students, mothers, fathers, faculty, staff and family members. The event was a wonderful celebration giving tribute to black culture and the students who successfully completed their rigourous education at Pomona College, Claremont McKenna College, Scripps College, Harvey Mudd College and Pitzer College.
In my presentation I provided references and personal experiences from my own life that encouraged each graduating student to pursue greatness in the midst of change, uncertainty and adversity.
